In the world of horticulture, “hybrid vigor” occurs when healthy crossbred plants take on the best qualities of their parents. The concept suits this album, which is our seventh, and our first since 2016 that blends free playing with studio overdubs.
This seven track collection is grounded in Seven Count’s commitment to trio improvisation, but offers a quantum leap in our musical lexicon. Telekinetic performances are grafted with soundscapes, textures, and samples, while their musical root structure shoots up energetically after a healthy pruning.
The 41 minutes of sound are drawn from over 700 minutes of recorded material, and include additional contributions on synthesizer and guitar from Ken Edelson. These tracks are the ripest berries from the field, grafted, boosted, and generationally enhanced to form Hybrid Vigor. The result is an anything-is-possible feeling of flying, stabilized by the precision, hindsight, and quality of multi-track composition.
